Best Small Room Air Purifier

2019 Best Small Room Air Purifier

There are lots of things happen in bed. NO, not that sort of things. Things that will affect your sleep like dust mites, fur and all kinds of allergen. These are the little things that will drive you into a cranky, grumpy mood without you realizing it. So instead of just roll over and sleep it through, you should be aggressive and start tackling the issue. Let's not bore you with all the housekeeping tips that plenty of sites is doing right now. We are going straight for the air purifier for small room guide that everyone can afford.

Good things come in small packages.

Do I Need an Air Purifier for Each Room?

Yes if the room air quality is under par. We recommend getting a smaller but efficient HEPA air purifier for each room. The individual air purifier would do a better job easing your allergies problem in the bedroom. Also, there are just too many objects in room blocking the airflow from reaching out. when you keep your door shut, the airflow distribution will stay within the confined space. There are some site suggested a big A** air purifier would cover room to room, it just doesn’t work that way.

How do we measure?
Dimension The old cliché size does matter but on a different spectrum. Ordinary people have an ordinary-sized bedroom. It is going to be occupied with a bed, bedside table, floor lamps, wardrobe and so much more. There is little room left for a bulky unit hence we want an air purifier that is compact to be tuck at anywhere.
Price and upkeeping There is no such thing as too much money. Why spend so much on an air purifier when you have a small room? There is plenty of nifty machines that would do the purifying job when is needed too. Adding all the household stuff that is making the room even smaller, you don't need to see an air purifier reminding your mistake every day.
HEPA filter HEPA filter is a norm now for every mechanical air purifier. It is the main defense against the incoming microbes and effectively doing so. Whether is a True HEPA or the inferior HEPA-type, the filter must be included in the package. Bonus point will be given if there is any other filtration supporting it.
Auto/ Sleep mode Not necessarily but is good to have. We are looking at Auto or Sleep mode feature that is best suited for all-night use. With either of the autonomous mode, the air purifier will be running in an unintrusive mode that is very helpful in the bedroom. Again, most small air purifiers do not have this feature but we are perfectly fine with it.

Who is this for?

Anyone having trouble sleeping, waking up with a dry mouth or severe headache. Sneeze constantly when you're in the room. An asthmatic person that is sensitive to most allergens. As always, newborn, baby, and children are also the prime target.

LV-H126 is not the most powerful unit in Levoit lineup. It is at least one of the cheapest and smallest air purifier around. That two reasons itself will likely get it in the list. For bedroom use, usability is as simple as it gets with one simple control knob. Airflow output is surprisingly good given its economical price tag. Not bad, not bad at all.

What's cool: Decent purifying coverage for start. For less than 60, you'll still get a True HEPA filter with 99.97% efficiency. What's sweeten the deal is the carbon filter that will capture light smoke and odors. The one and only blue cloth front panel is a reason to behold.

What's not: The lack of practicality features. Carbon filter requires quarterly change.

In short: A cheap, dependable yet small HEPA air purifier. While the performance is considered decent for its class, there are still better options available. Also, the lack of timer and Sleep mode might not tickle everyone's fancy.
  • Cheap to own and maintain with filter replacement set cost less than $15.
  • Compact and lightweight with a unique blue denim alike style front panel.
  • Acceptable purifying coverage for its category.
  • Use true HEPA filter that can target 0.3 microns size particles.
  • 2 years warranty even at this price point.
  • Not the best in airflow delivery rate.
  • Plain unit with no addon features. Use traditional filter reminder wheel rather than sensor-based reminder.
  • Odor removal is not great despite the inclusion of activated carbon filter.

Another familiar model that is regularly featured in our list. It might seem odd Levoit LV-H132 is priced higher than LV-H126, it is not and the night light is your answer. Of course, we do not base on one aspect, there are more things this small air purifier will bring to the "bedroom".

What's cool: Pricing and filter cost is very affordable. There is the alluded 2 brightness night light, plus a True HEPA filter and carbon filter. We cannot stress how important it is to have a "real" HEPA filter.

What's not: Like the former, it's plain vanilla with only night light and fan speed to play with.

In short: Not the smallest air purifier around but made up with its airflow performance. If you need a night light for your children, save it and buy this instead.
  • Cheap price tag even before any discount.
  • Very low filter replacement cost.
  • 3-stage filtration that works without being compromised by the size.
  • True HEPA filter performs well against microscopic particles.
  • For a console air purifier, Levoit LV-H132 has a considerably small cylinder shape body.
  • Built-in night light that is dimmable.
  • Thin Activated Carbon filter that is far from great against odor.
  • Very small purifying coverage that barely covers a room.
  • "Only" 2 years warranty (as opposed to model that offer 5).
  • Occasion rattling fan noise that will disappear after running for a couple of minutes.

FLT5250PT Filter-C HEPA Pet Pure

This is probably the best air purifier for a small room. At first, we struggle to include GermGuardian AC5250PT pet air purifier in our list. Not just for the price point, it is rather tall for a small room air purifier. After a few rounds of pros and cons, there is no question AC5250PT existence in the table. Here's why.

What's cool: 5 things. Charcoal pre-filter, True HEPA filter (true that), pet antimicrobial, and UV-C light. Oh, timer is available here. So make it 6.

What's not: 2-3 times more expensive than most air purifiers here. Still lack Auto mode and Sleep mode.

In short: If you have a pet partner in bed and believe me they shed A LOT. Is worth investing in a bigger air purifier to save you from inhaling all the pet dander.
  • Cost less than half of the other competitors are offering for a HEPA tower purifier.
  • Complete 5-stage filtration with UV-light and 5 fan speed.
  • Effective True HEPA with Pet Pure antimicrobial that inhibits the growth of mold and mildew.
  • Proven UV-C light that would assist in eliminating airborne germs and bacteria. Can be deactivated when not needed
  • Comes with timer, filter replacement indicator, and digital display.
  • 5 years manufacturer warranty (AC4825 only up to 3 years).
  • Small purifying coverage with limited airflow delivery rate.
  • Filter replacement cost (with Pet Pure filter C) around the cost of a brand new unit in few years time.
  • Lacks air quality sensors and Auto mode.
  • Uses combine Charcoal pre-filter rather than dedicated carbon filter.
  • Troublesome filter reset that requires small object like a pen tip to reset the button.

Imagine having an air purifier right next to you during sleep. GermGuardian AC4100 will do just that but quietly without any interference. Dust mite, mold, pollen, and pet dander will be inconspicuously removed from the air. This is THE best bedside air purifier in our list.

What's cool: For such a tiny air purifier, it manage to fit in a 4-stage filtration with UV light. It can also operate in a vertical or horizontal position.

What's not: Weak coverage, uses the poorer HEPA-type filter. Maintenance cost is also on the higher side if you include the UV-light.

In short: Not the latest model but still selling strong. It is cheap, small, and comes with UV filtration. If you are in with airflow performance, Levoit might be the better shout.
  • Affordable for a 4-stage filtration air purifier with UV technology.
  • Beautiful speaker-like body that is compact and practical.
  • Works in vertical and horizontal position.
  • Charcoal Pre-filter that detaches from the HEPA filter for vacuuming.
  • UV-C light technology that can be turned off when not needed.
  • Below average purifying coverage and filtration strength. Uses HEPA-type filter that has "only" 99% efficiency.
  • Annual filter replacement cost is high and can cost more than the air purifier on long use.
  • No addon features like timer, Auto mode even though it is understandable given its size and price tag.
  • Uses manual filter reminder date wheel.

Another regular contention. PureZone 3-in-1 Air Purifier at one time is so popular in Amazon, it is impossible to get hold of stock. Why is it selling so well for a brand that to many are unheard of? Its extraordinary, value proposition squeeze in a tiny box. That's why.

What's cool: Extensive 200 sq. ft. coverage with a genuine HEPA filter and carbon filter. Timer is a welcome inclusion. Price tag is also inexpensive along with the maintenance cost.

What's not: 80 cfm CADR output is on the weaker side. The lack of Auto/ Sleep mode theme continues.

In short: More expensive than most air purifiers here but gains a wider applicable area. Best used if you have a big master bedroom. Act quickly though as it's on a limited quantity.
  • Affordable price tag with low filter replacement cost.
  • Lightweight and compact framework.
  • Pre-filter, Carbon Filter and True HEPA filter all comes standard.
  • Bacteria killer UV-C light is a joy to have.
  • 3 preset timer and sleep mode.
  • 5 years warranty supported by attentive customer support.
  • Lacks Auto mode/ air quality indicator even though it is expected at this price range.
  • CADR is below average but sufficient for normal use.
  • Small filters that have a relatively short lifespan (6 months or less).

HEPA-grade filter

Sometimes the most simple things can bring the most happiness. There is nothing outstanding about Hamilton Beach TrueAir Compact 04386. Is a quote-unquote essential air purifier to clean its surrounding air. We couldn't agree more.

What's cool: 2 things. A very low price tag and zero filter replacement cost. It uses a permanent HEPA-grade filter that will last for ages.

What's not: The HEPA-grade filter is incomparable with a True HEPA filter. Basic unit with no features.

In short: If you want a small room air purifier that does not require a lot of attention, this is it. Sure it has a sub-par filtration than the rest, but why change when it got the basic thing right?
  • Very low price tag.
  • No filter change needed with the permanent HEPA-grade filter.
  • Small in size (portable grade).
  • Versatile design that can be place horizontally or vertically without reducing the airflow efficiency.
  • Low noise level at all 3 speeds setting.
  • Very limited purifying coverage and airflow delivery rate.
  • Poor HEPA filtration that typically will decline in efficiency on frequent use.
  • No odor removal carbon filter.
  • Plain vanilla set without timer, Auto mode.
  • Comes only with standard 1 year warranty.

🏆 Honorable mention

Is not hard to find a compact air purifier, but we are a picky bunch. The list doesn't change often here, but when it does, is for a good reason.
  • It's not you, it's me. Honeywell HPA300 True Allergen is over qualified to be featured here.
  • Bionaire/ Holmes entry-level air purifiers

Additional Information

Where Should an Air Purifier Be Placed In a Room?

We recommend placing it next to the bed or somewhere close by if is a small air purifier. You could place it on top of a shelf or bedside table providing it does not get tip over by your cat or children. Leave some space between the wall around 1-2 feet to prevent obstruction on the air inlet and outlet. There is no need to place the air purifier at the center of the room as the clean air will be spread consistently in time.
