Design And Usability
Austin Air Allergy Machine’s boxy exterior has the exact dimensions as every other Austin Air air purifier at 14.5 x 23 x 14.5. Weight is slightly lighter at 33.1 lb, despite the same powdered coated steel housing; you would still need to rely on the 4 casters to move the air purifier around. Usability is a bit of a mixed bag; the front dial knob fan speed is super easy to use. However, the lack of practical features such as an air quality sensor, auto mode, and filter indicator hinders the air purifier’s overall usability. On to the specification, what’s included in the package is a 5 years all-in-one filter lifespan, 360° progressive Intake System, NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory) recognized, CSA (Canadian Standards Association), and CE (Conformité Européenne) approved. As typical Austin Air famous, the 4-stage filtration is 100% mechanical with no ozone byproducts emission and a 5 years warranty covering any manufacturing defects.

Filters And Performance
Austin Air Allergy Machine 4-stage filtration is excellent for people suffering from asthma and allergies. The first filtration stage consists of an outer mesh filter and inner pre-filter that would trap large particles such as dust, dirt, lint, fiber, and pet hair. Of course, the 2-stage medium filter would capture medium-sized particles. In contrast, the 3-stage HEPA filter would trap even smaller airborne particles at 0.3 microns with a 99.97% efficiency and 99% microscopic particles at 0.1 microns in size. These include mold, pet dander, bacteria, and viruses. Finally, Allergy Machine High-Efficiency Gas Absorption (HEGA) filter would trap odor and gas-based allergens linked to household contaminants from cooking, cigarette, cleaning products, VOCs, CO, and CO2.
Overall, filter quality is excellent with multi-layer of depths. You only have to get used to the infamous filter change that requires turning the air purifier over and unscrewing the bottom panel to replace the old filter. Secure but a tedious task.

Pricing And Maintainence Cost
^ Replacement filters/ estimated cost
Austin Air Allergy Machine estimated 765+ price is at premium territory. The lack of modern features further blows the air purifier's overall value. For the price, you can easily get 2-3 air cleaners for multiple rooms but at the cost of lower air coverage. You are paying 100% for the filtration capabilities, which is absolutely fine for those who don't need all the fancy tech.
Filter replacement is another story as Austin Air Allergy Machine offers one of its segment's lowest annual filter replacement costs. The extra-long filter lifespan largely contributes to the economical running cost that only requires replacing every 2-5 years. You will save tons of money on the filter and only have to deal with the hassle of filter change every couple of years.
The best place to get Austin Air Allergy Machine is Amazon or the official website. You will enjoy the usual perks such as bundled discount, free shipping, 30 days return policy if you are not happy with the purchase. We did not find Austin Air in our local retailers, give them a buzz if you need to locate one for physical examination.
Austin Air Allergy Machine VS The Challengers

Austin Air HealthMate HM400
At a much lower cost, the standard set offers decent enough filtration strength against common allergens.
Austin Air Bedroom Machine
The ultimate version with 5-stage filtration, including 15 lbs. Activated Carbon and Zeolite and HEGA filter. It's also the most expensive unit in the Austin Air lineup.Pros
- An activated military grade carbon HEGA filter is excellent for people who are sensitive to allergens.
- Consistent airflow with wide purifying coverage over 1,500 square feet.
- Comprehensive trio pre-filter that blocks all PM10 particulates from proceeding.
- Reliable 60 sq. ft. certified HEPA filter focus on capturing microscopic particles as small as 0.1 microns.
- No off-gassing as the exterior is made entirely from powdered coated steel.
- Long-life (up to 5 years), low maintenance filter.
- Comprehensive 5 years official Austin Air warranty that covers all non-filter parts.
Cons
- Distinctive audible noise that is not great for night use.
- Lighter than HealthMate but overall still bulky that requires the casters' support for transport.
- Hassle bottom filter change requires unscrewing rather than a pop-out or slide-out mechanism.
- Empty on features. Lacks auto/ sleep mode, air quality sensors, digital screen indicator, and timer.
