Design and Usability
Premium and classic design at its best. Blueair 605 retains its timeless console design from the previous version. At 20 x 26 x 13 in dimension, the air purifier is certainly not compact where you could squeeze it in a tight corner. The 35 lb galvanized steel body feels hefty and premium from the norm. Unlike plastic that will off-gas at some point, the powder-coated exterior ensures no toxin emission. On the sides, there are air inlet and outlet plus bottom casters to ease its mobility. As an added bonus karma point, Blueair 605 is also eco-friendly made with 100% recyclable parts.

Moving on to the controls and usability. There are only 3 big buttons with each having an LED icon to indicate what mode the air purifier is in. Let’s start with the middle air flow control button. The fan speed button will display complete grey if there is no power source (OFF). Outer circle blue with all bars grey when power cable is plugged in. In operation (ON), 1 blue bar = minimum speed, 2 blue bars = medium speed and 3 blue bars = maximum speed. Same goes with the Wi-Fi button where it will be in full grey when there is no Wi-Fi. The button will blink when is ready to connect and blue if is connected. As for the filter button, color will be shown grey + blue when no replacement filter is required. Color change to orange when the filter is in need of replacing. After changing, hold the button for 5 seconds to reset the status.
Available in iOS and Google Play, you could download and use Blueair Friend app via the comfort of your bed. Once you have added 605 into the Blueair Friend app list, you can begin remotely control the air purifier. Basic function includes adjusting the 3 speed, LED display intensity, and timer. Advanced feature includes night mode, child lock, and scheduling (hours and days). You could also access real-time outdoor air quality data and other usage logs. With the add-on purchase Blueair Aware monitor, you could enable Auto mode feature. This lets the machine change speed autonomously to adjust to current room air quality.
Rounding up the Classic air purifier notable features. 3-stage HEPASilent Technology filtration with 3 speed, casters, Smartphone control. Easy one-minute filter replacement with no screws, hooks or tools needed. Finally, zero ozone emission, CARB certified, Energy Star rated and 5 years warranty.
Airflow, Coverage, And CADR
Being a console air purifier, there is multiple air inlet from the sides. Blueair 605 has the best 150 - 650 cfm airflow delivery rate and 775 sq. ft. coverage for its Classic series. Perfect for large room sizes like living hall, dining room, lounge, or kitchen. There is plenty of power to spread out across the 3 fan speed that you will not feel underpowered at all. At 5 air changes an hour, clean air will be swiftly distributed across the room via the air purifier outlet. CADR is equally impressive (above 500 point) and again best in its Classic series. dust CADR stands at 500 cfm, pollen CADR at a crazy 640 cfm and smoke CADR also at 500 cfm. Any figure that passes 300 cfm point is automatically qualified as excellent. Blueair 605 works best against seasonal allergies or hyperallergic/ asthmatic person.Recommended Read
Filters And Performance
Blueair 605 HEPASilent Technology combines the effort between electrostatic and mechanical filtration. Nearby pollutants will first suck inside the air purifier via the motor fan. The encapsulated particle-charging chamber will straight electrically charge the pollutants. This resulted in the fine airborne pollutants more adhere to the particle filter. As a result, the filter will have an easy task in capturing them at 99.97% efficiency down to 0.1 microns in size. Same goes with the SmokeStop Carbon filter that has a boost efficiency with charged gas based particles. Lastly, all filters are ultrasonically bonded with waterproof, natural antibacterial polypropylene fibers. In other word, antimicrobial protection. This is the opposite of most filters that use chemical-based bacteriostats/ mold inhibitors.
Continue on, all Blueair filter is made with low dense, gradient structure design. This prevents particle of all sizes from re-releasing out even if the filter is under heavy load. Blueair Classic 605 also help reduce its surrounding ozone level. This is because the purified air has less ozone concentration than the level in the air.Noise And Energy Usage
For the high airflow output, 32 - 62 dB(A) noise level is actually a lot quieter than similar range model. This is because the low density filter allows air to flow at a much lower pressure. That said, you can hardly tell the differences in real life situation. Noise is whisper-quiet at low speed, normal at medium speed and audible moving up the notch. Thanks to the advanced fan setup, 15 - 100 W power consumption is reasonable given the airflow return. Without default auto mode, you have to manually keep the speed at low to help reduce the electricity use.Noise Type | Decibels |
---|---|
Blueair 605 | 32 - 62 dB(A) |
Breathing | 10 dB |
Rustling leaves | 20 dB |
Whispering/ Quiet library | 30 dB |
Light rainfall | 40-50 dB |
Conversation | 50-60 dB |
Vacuum cleaner/ Hair dryer/ Washing machine | 65-80 dB |
City traffic | 80-90 dB |
Pricing And Maintainence Cost
A premium air purifier deserves a premium calling price, although I'm sure not everyone can take it. However, Blueair 605 price tag is not the biggest stumble block. the short filter lifespan and high annual filter replacement cost is. To enjoy Auto mode feature, you will need to buy the Blueair Aware monitor that will push the price up further. So if you can't cough out that much, consider the cheaper alternative below.Final Thoughts On Blueair 605
Bring to a conclusion, we are happy with Blueair 605 overall performance bar the price. It seems 83% of the 4-5 stars reviewers agreed with us. Most praises coming from the abundances of airflow that pulls in anything from the path. The outstanding smoke and odor filtration are another regular praises. Lastly, people love how Blueair manage to make a difference against seasonal allergies. As for the bad part, there are around 10% for the unhappy 1-2 stars reviewers. Most have their concern on the noxious chemical smell emitted from the air purifier. Other minor complains include Wi-Fi pairing problem, faulty unit, and filter replacement cost. Compare to the advantages/ disadvantages, there are definitely more things to look forward. We did not encounter any of the above issues in our test unit.
