Medify MA-40 is a simple, modern good-looking air cleaner that is clearly underappreciated. At a slim 9.9 inches width, 22 inches height, and 10.9 inches depth, it is fairly compact and only a tad bigger than the entry-level MA-15. While it does not merit a travel form factor, you can place it on the work desk, shelf, bedside table, or corner of the room without taking much space. The 15.6 pounds weight is on the heavier side, but most people will have no issue carrying it around.
Navigating Medify MA-40 could not be any easier. The tempered glass panel comes with all the basic and advanced controls. You can cycle the fan speed between quiet or performance, a child lock that locks the control from any adjustment, 1, 2, 4, or 8 hours timer preset, and a power-off button. You can also disable the ionizer function or dim the light button to reduce glare at night. Lastly, the passive filter replacement indicator will remind you to change the filter after 2,500 hours of runtime.
As for the design usability, you have a big horizontal air inlet that can pull air in even from the lower ground and distribute clean air right at the top. The removable panel is fitted tightly and can be easily taken out for quick filter change. Overall Medify MA-40 is very well-built, uses premium materials, and we have not spotted any misalignment, off-gassing, patchy spot.
To round up Medify MA-40 passive features, it is ozone-safe as approved by CARB (California Air Resources Board), AHAM tested on CADR, international UL safety standard, ETL, and Energy Star certified. There is also the renowned Medify lifetime warranty that covers any manufacturer defects for the rest of your life (providing no third-party filters is used).
Airflow, speed, and CADR
What’s inside countHere are the key differences between Medify Air MA-40 and the rest of its lineup. Outfitted with a dual intake 4-stage air filtration, the outer pre-filter will trap large particles mainly dust, hair, fibers, and lint. With most large particles removed, the dual H13 HEPA filter will remove 99.9% of irritants as small as 0.1 microns e.g. dust mites, mold, pollen, pet dander, bacteria, and virus carrier. For smoke particles, you have the carbon filter with carbon pellets that will absorb pet odors, cooking smells, musty mold, tobacco smoke, harmful toxins e.g. VOCs, asbestos, formaldehyde, benzene. There is an optional ionizer technology (can be disabled) diffuses negative ions that will latch to nearby positive ions particles in the air. The particles will subsequently fall from the increased weight and Medify Air MA-40 will pull in the pollutants into its filtration. Overall, the filter quality is great but the dual filter setup can be costly and a hassle to replace.
Keep it down
Medify MA-40 noise output is split between its fan base. Some find the noise acceptable for all-day use while some find it loud and distracting. At low speed AKA "Sleep mode", the noise level is at 46 dBA which is in white noise territory. At max speed, the noise level could go as high as 66 dBA. So if you want to use the air purifier during sleep or a focus session, stay clear of high speed. The V2.0 will also automatically turned off the ionizer to make it quieter, but you can enable it back when needed.
For power consumption, Medify MA-40 is Energy Star rated with an average of 54 watts per hour. More than triple of MA-15 but you do have to remember this is a way more powerful unit. With 12 hours of runtime, the estimated cost is around $0.10 per day, $2.9 a month, or $35 dollars a year. For 24 hours runtime, multiply the electric cost by 2.

Medify MA-40 VS the challengers
Medify MA-15The entry-level model coming from the same stable. While it gains a smaller dimension and lower price tag, you will have to settle with a weaker airflow delivery rate.
Winix 5500-2Our favorite air purifier that is perfectly balanced in price, performance, and features. It is cheaper, comes with auto mode, and remote control. The only trade-off is the slightly weaker airflow distribution.
Airmega 300Another great dust removal machine that is bigger, pricier, and with stronger airflow output. It does lack an ionizer that is available in Medify.
Final thoughts on Medify MA-40Medify MA-40 is a well-received air purifier for many good reasons. Out of the massive 6,918 ratings, 91% of reviewers give it a positive 4 to 5 star. A big vote of confidence on its usability and value. Most users are pleased with the performance where they cough and sneeze less particularly during the winter season. They also notice the air quality has dramatically improved with less smelly odor coming out. Other compliments received include the slim design, premium glass panel, easy-to-change filters, H13 HEPA filter, and silent operation (see the cons). As for the drawbacks, most of the 7% complaints are aimed directly at the fan noise that they deemed is too noisy for night use. An insignificant amount of people also mentioned the poor build quality and high price. In conclusion, if you want a good air purifier that is based in Florida and founded by a woman, look no further.
