Let’s look into the details of this air purifier and why I changed my mind on purchasing it at the last minute.

Panasonic F-VXH50 review

  • Full filtration including humidification.
  • Wide purifying coverage works great with Nanoe technology in removing bacteria, allergens and odours. Nanoe purification can also moisture your skin.
  • Comprehensive airflow distribution with the adaptable 3D circulation airflow and Mega Catcher.
  • Eco-friendly Econavi mode (up to 40% energy-saving according to Panasonic).
  • Up to 10 years filters lifespan on composite, deodorising and humidifying filter.
  • Large opening design water tank with visible water level window.
  • Auto mode, Spot Air, Sleep mode (timer) and Child lock is available by default.
  • Rather expensive and at the range of Panasonic F-VXF70.
  • While composite filter is great against virus/ bacteria, it has less filtration efficiency than HEPA filter (99% VS 99.97%).
  • A permanent, washable pre-filter would be great for extra filtration.
  • Deactivation of nanoe purification requires pressing and holding 2 buttons.
Panasonic F-VXH50 dimension
360 x 560 x 240 mm
(14.2 x 22 x 9.4 in)
Panasonic F-VXH50 weight
8.6 kg (19 lb)

Panasonic Air Purifier F-VXH50 is slightly smaller for its category especially when compared with the likes of Hitachi EP-A6000 and Sharp KCD60EW. Size at 36 x 56 x 24 cm, you could easily place this unit at the top of your cabinet although I will not recommend due to the difficulty in capturing ground bacteria. At 8.6 kg, you will need both hands to hold on each side of the handle to carry this unit around. Nothing standout on the structure with the standard boxy shaped design but practical nonetheless with its all angle airflow inlet. Humidity tank capacity is also standard at 2.3 L. On the back of the unit, there is a louver (cover) for the airflow inlet which is a nice touch. There are 3 colors available for F-VXH50: white, pink and black.

As mentioned above, you can compare the dimension between the 3 models.

ModelDimension (W x H x D)Weight
Sharp KCD60EW42 x 63.7 x 24.2 cm8.6 kg
Hitachi EP-A600043 x 58.4 x 27.3 cm10 kg
Panasonic F-VXH5036 x 56 x 24 cm8.6 kg

Similar to Panasonic F-PXH55 air purifier, F-VXH50 used nanoe technology to sterilize inhibit allergens and remove odor from various sources including haze, cooking, cigarette fume. With Econavi technology, the unit can save up to 40% of the energy by memorizing the timeline of the pollution level and only operates when necessary. All angle 3D circulation airflow that can capture pollutants from both sides and front inlet of the air purifier. With mega catcher, when the sensor detects the air quality is low, the front panel will opens wide to allow a stronger absorption for pollutants. 10 years of life span for all 3 filters. Powerful humidifying function that can disperse up to 500 mL/h of water. The clean sign indicator that will display in blue when the air is clean; Minor red if the air is slightly dirty and red if the air is absolutely dirty. Intelligent light sensor that will dim or turn off when there is no sign of people. Adjustable airflow for a more rapid cleaning. Auto filter replacement reminder to remind you to change or clean your filter.

Applicable area, airflow, noise level and power input

Panasonic F-VXH50 has an applicable area of 40 m2 for purifying and 23 m2 of applicable area for purifying with humidifying. Airflow level is weaker compared with similar model at 306 maximum to 114 and 54 m³/h minimum. With humidifying, the airflow level is at 294 maximum, to 138 and 78 m³/h minimum. There is no noise level provided for this unit so we will just skip it. Finally power input is at 45 maximum, 9 medium and 6 (9 with humidifying) W minimum.

Final thoughts

You must be wondering by now, with so many pros on this air purifier, why do I still decide to go for another unit? The main reason would be the value of course, simple as that. Panasonic F-VXH50 is a well-balanced air purifier that offers great features with a wide applicable area and at a reasonable price. But in my case, I would only need an air purifier with acceptable airflow speed and has wide applicable area as I will be placing it in my living room. Even though there is an offer price for F-VXH50 at that moment (around $450), in the end I decide to go for a cheaper price air purifier that has an even wider applicable area (with less feature of course). In case you are wondering, the air purifier that I decided to go for is Philips air purifier AC4014/01.

It is tremendously efficient on large airborne pollutants notably dust, hair. Nevertheless against small pollutants, Panasonic F-VXH50 3 speed airflow input/ output + is superb at taking down mold, spores, mildew, pollen, germs, dust mites and pet dander.  As for odors, fumes and smokes, Panasonic F-VXH50 is also decent in eliminating chemicals, odors, cooking smell, fire, VOCs, tobacco smokes, cigarette, vapor, radon and ammonia.
