Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 Review (SPA-625A): Everything You Need But Better!

A multi award-winning air purifier that never fails to impress, Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 SPA-625A is essentially a higher spec version of 550A that delivers stronger airflow purifying performance in an identical specification. With SPA-625A covering more ground than most air purifiers in the market, can the performance and in-built features of this 4-stage machine justified its hefty price tag?

Not your average air purifier design, Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 SPA-625A 16.6 x 22.2 x 9.8 in dimension and 16.8 lb weight is compact, clean and beautifully designed. The air purifier shares the exact same size and design as 550A including the top control placement. Air inlet well is well-hidden where it draws air in through bottom and both sides of the front panel; air outlet is located at top back that expel purified air back to the room. There is a back handle for easy carrying the air purifier while way at the top, there is a remote control slot that you guessed it, is for storing your remote control. Build quality is rock solid with no sign of off-gassing however, you should not expect any premium materials as the whole body is made entirely in plastic.

Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 controls

Moving on to the control panel, the whole air purifier is easy to use as it practices a minimalist approach by reducing the number of buttons you can fiddle around with (well at least on the air purifier). Right at the top front center, there is the main device control where a single tap will power on the air purifier, tap again to change the fan speed mode/ Auto mode sensitivity and press & hold the button to power it off. Next to it you will find a filter maintenance indicator (6 status bar + a filter maintenance & replacement light) that lights out every quarterly to remind you to clean the filter. There is also dotted bar air quality, fan speed, timer and Negative Ion Generator indicator right below the main button. The filter status indicator or “Smart Display interface” will only appear when you click on the main device control button or remote control to shows the current mode you are in. At this point you might be asking how do you access the other functionality like timer? Only via the remote control. The remote control comes with 5 clickable round buttons, you can turn on/ off the air purifier, change the fan speed, activate Auto mode, Negative Ion Generator (Ionizer) or set one of the 3 pre-set timers. Never lose or misplace the remote control if you don’t want to lose out on some of the air purifier features.

Wrapping up the air purifier features: A 4-stage filtration with Negative Ion Generator, 5 fan speed, particle/ odor sensor with Auto mode, air quality indicator, Smart Display, 3 preset timer, filter life indicator with usage status, remote control, Child Proof Safety Design that stop the air purifier from operating when front panel is removed, Energy Star Certified and 5 years warranty on motor and workmanship.

Beside the price tag, this is the only section that differentiate Rabbit Air SPA-550A and SPA-625A. The latter has a higher purifying coverage that is slightly faster at purifying a room with 2 air charges per hour (313 sq. ft at 4 air charges per hour). The 75 sq. ft. increase at max speed means there are little differences that you can tell in real life. SPA-625A comes with the same 5 fanspeed and can cover for large room size including master bedroom, kitchen and living hall. Airflow also gets bump up slightly at 42 cfm speed 1, 66 cfm speed 2, 95 cfm speed 3, 137 cfm speed 4 to 167 cfm max fifth speed. Overall airflow distribution is consistent while Auto mode is sensitive in detecting nearby pollutants thanks to the particle and odor sensors.

As with SPA-550A version, CADR or clean air delivery rate is the same story with SPA-625A. Combining the effort of its 4-stage filtration and airflow distribution, the filters is effective in filtering out airborne particles as you would expect, although far from the same pace as other top-range air purifier. The numbers underwhelm as none of the main 3 measurement passes the 200 cubic feet per minute (cfm) score tier. As seen above, you have the dust at 165 cfm, pollen at 189 cfm and smoke is the least satisfactory at 152 cfm.

What’s inside count

Rabbit Air BioGS SPA-625A utilize a typical 4-stage filtration setup which consist of Pre-filter, HEPA filter, Carbon filter and Negative Ion Generator. When the airborne particles flown in from either side or bottom of the air purifier, the first stage Pre-filter would filter out all large airborne particles. Without the cumbersome large particles, HEPA filter is free to concentrate on smaller particles (down to 0.3 micron size) like bacteria and allergens at 99.97% efficiency. Unlike typical HEPA filter, BioGS HEPA filter can help reduce the common allergens and germs build up and continue growth on the filter. The next dedicated Charcoal-Based Activated Carbon Filter would specifically capture indoor smoke and gas odor. Lastly, the Negative Ion Generator would finish up the filtration by weighing particles down for easy capturing via its negative positive ion merging process. Both HEPA and carbon filter is made with good quality materials although it’s not the biggest in size.

Filter maintenance and care

Replacing Rabbit Air BioGS filter is easy and can be done within couple of minutes. When the filter maintenance & replacement light change to flashing light to remind you replace the filter, first you remove the front panel by lifting from bottom and pulling it upwards. With the front panel out of the way, remove each filter accordingly starting by pinching and pulling the top two tabs of the pre-filter. Continue pulling the activated carbon filter out follow by BioGS HEPA filter. With old filters removed, replace it with the new filters set in the following order, HEPA filter, activated carbon filter and lastly pre-filter. Finally, reattach the front panel back from top to the bottom. Please ensure the plastic wrap on each filter is removed before proceeding with the installation. As the HEPA filter, carbon filter and pre-filter have a longer than average 18 months+ lifespan, you can lightly vacuum (low speed/ nozzle brush) surface particles on each filter every quarterly.

Keep it down

Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 SPA-625A noise level
Noise level
22.8 - 50.4 dBA
Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 SPA-625A power consumption
Power consumption
5 - 39 W

Noise level is lower than most same segment models from Austin Air IQAir, thanks to the Brushless Direct Current Motor (BLDC). Expect virtually silent noise (22.8 dBA) at lowest speed, very minimal noise at second/ third speed and audible but bearable noise at fourth/ fifth speed (50.4 dBA). As there is no sleep mode available, you will have to rely on Auto mode or manually set the fan speed between 1 to 3 for night/ bedroom use. Off Negative Ion Generator for an even more quiet operation.

Power consumption is also very low for the lowest 2 speeds and higher but still reasonable as the speed goes up. Auto mode is a big plus in energy management together with the Energy Star certification. A neat little feature that is unique in BioGS is the smart display controls that only light up when click/ active to help conserve energy.

^ Replacement filters/ estimated cost
This quiet HEPA air purifier is nowhere near cheap as same segment air purifiers yet with better CADR, airflow distribution with wider purifying coverage. What the air purifier manage to turn to its advantage is the very low annual filter replacement cost made possible from the long filter lifespan (up to 36 months under certain condition). Adding an intuitive, easy-to-use control, extra premium goodies like remote control, dependable customer support and the easy availability of filter replacement kit, this air purifier would rock in long-run.
As you can see from the above price chart, there is not much differences in pricing from every other website. Rabbit Air BioGS SPA-625A is also not the cheapest air purifier within its high purifying coverage range however, it is one of the lowest filter maintenance air purifier in its group. Despite not having any substantial discount or special promotion, Amazon is still our pick as it comes with free shipping and hassle free 30 days return policy. Do note that we would not recommend going for refurbished/ used model. Alternatively, you can purchase from official Rabbit Air’s website that has the added merits of 90-day money back guarantee, direct customer support and stock availability assurance. you could also consider similar price models like Alen BreatheSmart Flex with wider coverage, Winix NK105 with better CADR or the premium selection Blueair Classic 205.

Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 SPA-625A VS the challengers

Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 SPA-550A

Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 SPA-550A

As the model name rightly suggested, this is the cheaper version of with slightly reduced airflow purifying coverage and of course a lower CADR. Everything else is the same from design, features, filtration setup and even annual filter maintenance cost. Either model will work for us.
Honeywell HPA300

Honeywell HPA300

Has better filtration performance with almost double dust, pollen, smoke clean air delivery rate. It's also much cheaper and common but you will have to take in the higher annual filter replacement cost. Another downside is Honeywell HPA300 does not have a dedicated carbon filter or an optional ionizer.
Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-700A

Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-700A

It's costlier, more expensive to maintain with no significant bump on CADR, Rabbit Air MinusA2 is still worth a shout simply for its enhanced 6-stage filtration that includes a MinusA2 Medium Filter and customized filter. MinusA2 also has many cool features e.g. mood light and is wall-mountable so no issue with children fiddling around!
Winix 5500-2 PlasmaWave

Winix 5500-2

Another popular alternative that is very similar to Rabbit BioGS from dimension, features (including remote control) and filtration setup. Winix 5500-2 has the upper hand of a lower price tag and better dust, pollen, smoke CADR but loses out on filter maintenance cost and BioGS particle sensor detection.

Final thoughts on Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 SPA-625A

There you have it, Rabbit Air BioGS SPA-625A is everything an air purifier should be. Out of the 400 reviews in Amazon, a whopping 92% of them gave it a positive 4 – 5 stars. Most users praise its long-lasting build quality that dated since 2013, while others love the multi-level filtration (including us) with a reliable HEPA filter for wide range of pollutants including odors. The remaining 5% that gave it a 1 - 2 stars would simply disagree on the filtration performance particularly on the charcoal filters. To round up, a good number of positive feedbacks and the overall bundled package, we would unconditionally recommend this quiet HEPA air purifier to our readers regardless of which version you go for.
