Design And Usability

Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A dimension
21.4 x 20 x 7 in
(54.4 x 50.8 x 17.8 cm)
Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A weight
19.4 lb (8.8 kg)

There are not many wall-mounted air purifier, let alone a good one. Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A is not only that, it surpasses them all in airflow performance. Unfortunately, that also resulted in extra bulkiness at 21.4 x 20 x 7 in size and 19.4 lb weight. Fitting is tight with top grade materials used; Expect zero ozone emission or air by-pass. Upfront you have the customizable front panel with plenty of design to go for (add-on purchase). From Peanuts Designs featuring Snoopy, Gustav Klimpt, Katsushika Hokusai, Paul Frank. Right in the middle there is a 4 spectrum color mood light bar which many people confuse it as AQ indicator. Air quality indicator is actually the small dot located at the right panel. Air Intake is excellent at all sides of front panel while there is only one air outlet behind. Nothing much else at the back other than the top handle for easy carrying and 2 bracket holders. Like SPA-700A, there is no remote-control slot because of the likelihood it will be mounted to the wall.

Control panel is also located at front for easy viewing especially if is hang up high on the wall. Rather than using a digital display to show multiple info, MinusA2 stuck with indicator lights for every single function. AQ indicator light will shift colors between blue (best), purple, light purple, red (worst). Among all that is the main power button and the 3 small buttons that is also accessible through the remote. Speaking of remote, this is one of the few air purifiers with full access controls on their remote. You can control the power, speed, mode and mood light through the dedicated buttons.

Rabbit Air MinusA2 control

To turn on the air purifier, press and hold the power button for 2 seconds and repeat again to turn it off. A simple click on the speed button would cycle between the 5 fan speeds (silent, low, medium, high, turbo). Clicking on the mode button would swap between Auto and Pollen mode. Press and hold the mode button for 3 seconds would reset the replace filters indicator. Do note that the air purifier will always start with the previous mode of operation. Like mode button, mood light button is also a dual function button. On a single click, it will turn on or off the mood light. Press and hold the button for 3 seconds would turn on or off the negative ion generator (ionizer). Last info that most people are unaware, you can adjust the sensitivity level of the sensors. First, press speed and mode buttons for three seconds. By now the air quality and auto mode indicator will start blinking. press the speed button again to change the sensitivity level. To check what sensitivity the air purifier is currently in, look to the right panel. If the replace filters indicator is light up = sensitivity level is low. Pollen indicator light = standard sensitivity while auto indicator light = high sensitivity. Press and hold the speed and mode buttons again to save the sensitivity level. Failing to do so within 10 seconds and the air purifier will restore back to the last saved setting.

Wrapping up the spec, you have standard 6-stage filtration with filter life indicator. Multi-spectrum mood light, 5 speed plus Auto mode, remote and built-in wall bracket. Sensor wise there is the trio Particle/ Odor/ Light sensor. The air purifier will switch to sleep mode when the room is dark and resumes back when light return. Passive feats include Child Proof Safety Design that stops operation when the front panel is loosed or removed. Finally, MinusA2 is Energy Star certified and comes with 5 years warranty.

Airflow, Coverage, And CADR

Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A coverage
Purifying coverage
815 sq. ft. (76 m2)
Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A fanspeed
Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A is the better version of SPA-700A. First thing is the purifying coverage bumps to 815 sq. ft. (115 sq.ft. more). For asthmatic person that would need a more frequent airflow, expect 408 sq. ft. of purifying at 4 air charges per hour. SPA-780A can support small to large room size including bedroom and living hall. Airflow also pushes up slightly starting from 58 cfm speed 1, 80 cfm speed 2, 122 cfm speed 3, 159 cfm speed 4, and 218 cfm speed 5. Overall, airflow is consistent and punchy particularly at lower speed. Auto mode is also available by default thanks to the dual particle/ odor sensor. There is also Pollen mode where mood light will shift blue >purple > light purple > pink. In Auto mode, the mood light will be in solid blue. Lastly, Sleep mode will work like Auto mode except mood light and air quality indicator will be off.

200 cfm (340 m3/h)
Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A smoke CADR
Smoke CADR
180 cfm (306 m3/h)
CADR figures are quite close to each other so consistency is not overplayed. Is fair to say the air purifier is effective against all types or airborne particles. The clean air delivery rate is also identical to SPA-700A with Dust at 193 cfm, Pollen at 200 cfm and smoke at 180 cfm. The slight let down is the CADR didn’t break the 200 cfm benchmark considering what others is pumping out.

Filters And Performance

Powered by the 6-stage filtration that captures contaminants every step of the way. How Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A purification works is simple. When the particles flow into the air inlet, the motor will pull the irritants to the pre-filter. Smaller particles that manage to bypass will now have to go through the medium filter. If is still manage to bypass that, the 99.97% efficiency BioGS HEPA filter will take over from here. This entire process would eliminate most allergens as small as 0.3 microns. On leftover smoke, odors, and bacteria, you have the option to choose 1 of the 4 customizable filters. Ranging from Germ Defense Filter, Pet Allergy Filter, Toxin Absorber Filter, and Odor Remover Filter. Continuing the step is the Activated Carbon filter that traps persistent gases/ odors. Ending is the Negative Ion Generator that releases negative ions to merge with positive ion particles. The merged ions will weigh down, drop and allow easy capturing by the filter through a new cycle.

Filter maintenance and care

First, remove the front panel by pulling it up from the bottom. A filter case should be right in the air purifier, take it out by pulling it outwards via the side handles. Lay the filter case on the floor and start removing each filter within accordingly. The exact sequence will be Pre-filter, Medium filter, HEPA filter, customized filter, and Carbon Filter. Remove all the plastic wrap on the new replacement filter set. Insert back all the filters to the filter case one-by-one in reverse order. Reattach the filter case to the air purifier by pushing it inwards. Lastly, close the front panel through the designated latches. Changing Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A filters is straightforward but hassle. It is because of the number of filters and the need to take down the air purifier from the wall. The better news is you only need to do it every 1–2 years unless there is a heavy blockage on the pre-filter. The pre-filter is the only cleanable filter through light vacuuming with a nozzle.

Noise And Energy Usage

Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A noise level
Noise level
25.6 - 51.3 dBA
Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A power consumption
Power consumption
7 - 61 W

With the new brushless direct current motor, noise is not a problem for this Ultra Quiet Air Purifier. Virtually silent at low speed (25.6 dBA), slightly audible at 2 speed and audible but not over the edge at high speed (51.3 dBA). Negative Ion Generator noise is reasonable for an ionizer. Great for day or night use where you could set the ideal speed you are comfortable in or leave it to Auto/ Sleep mode.

Energy Star qualified, the power usage is at lower-tier starting at a mere 7 W consumption rate. At max speed, the power consumption rate is higher than the lower spec Minus A2 SPA-700A (61 W vs 47 W). You can still run MinusA2 24x7 in the background without feeling a pinch on the electricity bill.

^ Replacement filters/ estimated cost
Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A price increased to match the added airflow distribution performance. Features wise, it remains the same with SPA-700A. Is the upper version worth the extra cost? That would depend on your needs but personally, either of the MinusA2 would do a bang up job when it’s required. On the other hand, the annual filter replacement cost is very low despite being a 6-stage air purifier. At 12 hours of daily use, the filters could last up to 2 years or half with all-day purifying. The filter longevity clearly outlasts competitor models like Winix, Honeywell. Best of all, both version of MinusA2 utilize the same filter kit so no extra bucks needed.
MinusA2 SPA-780A is one of the least expensive air purifiers to maintain apart from its own BioGS. Like every other Rabbit Air purifiers sold online, there are little differences in selling price so you can buy at any channel (Best Buy, Walmart etc). We highly recommend Amazon not because it's our site bread and butter, it's also convenience to say the least. Amazon choice offers free shipping (on selected seller) and 30-day return policy. No discount from the official website apart from the best stock availability perk.

Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-780A VS The Challengers

Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-700A

Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-700A

The Cheaper and identical version with minimal compromisation on airflow performance. SPA-700A 700 sq. ft. coverage by no means is poor, is just a lower spec model that would save you around $50 bucks on the selling price. Filter replacement cost remains the same.
Alen BreatheSmart FLEX

Alen BreatheSmart FLEX

For a much lower price, Alen BreatheSmart Flex is also a good alternative that comes with better CADR. You also enjoy customizable front panel and 4 optional filters to choose from. The downside is a weaker filtration, smaller applicable area, and less aesthetic feature. Of course being a console air purifier, it is not wall-mountable.
Alen BreatheSmart HEPA Air Purifier

Alen BreatheSmart Classic

The closest rival that is actually not a rival. For a little bit extra, you get Wi-Fi enabled features that allow advanced scheduling. The air purifier features are also accessible at the palm of your hand. Everything else is the same from design, specification to usability.
Blueair Classic 605

Blueair 605

Despite a mere “4-stage filtration”, Blueair 605 filtration depth is nothing to scoff at. Purifying coverage is identical but CADR can go up to 640 cfm for pollen. 3 times higher than MinusA2 SPA-780A. Pricing wise is expensive and so is the annual filter replacement cost.
